A glimmer on the auto front
The Cobalt Group, which provides internet marketing services for about three-fourths of the nation's new car dealerships, is hiring despite the fact that two of the three major U.S. automakers are in bankruptcy court.
Cobalt has eight open positions in Seattle and Lynnwood, and the company also has several openings in other locations, including Columbus, Ohio; Torrance, Calif.; and Somerset, N.J.
The local openings are web-focused, including an email marketing team manager, a design integrator, a data warehouse development leader and a data visualization specialist.
The hiring comes about six months after Cobalt laid off 45 workers, or about 4 percent of the company's work force, as the company adjusted to the recession and the steep decline in auto sales. But Cobalt CEO John Holt told TechFlash's John Cook recently that the shakeup in the auto industry could lead to more spending on digital marketing services.
"We know that the industry will emerge strong after the dust settles and that the role of digital marketing will be more important than ever," said Cobalt spokeswoman Amy Hatch, in an email response to questions about Cobalt's hiring.
