Usedcars.com now has data from Kelley Blue Book, allowing used-car shoppers to compare vehicle prices listed by dealerships with the Kelley Blue Book suggested retail values.
"Providing Kelley Blue Book's values to Usedcars.com visitors ultimately helps consumers feel confident they are paying a fair price," says Damon Bennett, director of business development for Kelley Blue Book.
Dealix, a division of The Cobalt Group, of Seattle, operates the site. Dealix changed the site to take advantage of data from Kelley Blue Book.
More than 1,600 dealers sell used cars on the site, designed to let users search for used vehicles in or near the users' ZIP codes. The site determines a visitor's ZIP code by checking his or her Internet Protocol address. The site automatically puts the user's ZIP code in the vehicle search box.
About half of the used-car dealers using this Web site price their used vehicles below the Kelley Blue Book price, says Anna Zornosa, general manager of Dealix. "In other words, half the inventory is priced below KBB, so this is a feature that really helps us merchandize," she says.
The new capabilities on the site include "best values" in each market, based on the difference between the dealer's posted price and the Kelley Blue Book suggested retail value.
Also new are a "most popular" vehicles section based on 24-hour visitor activity on the site and an optional "dealer spotlight" section, which features vehicles of the dealer's choosing or a display of older inventory.
